My first real success online was with my website www.FalconProjects.co.uk.

On this site you will see there are a select few products on offer with resell rights but they do have some very specific rules as to how you are permitted to sell them.  Most notably they are not to be distributed as digital files, only as real physical products, so why is this?

Well just a few short years ago, it would have been impossible to distribute these as digital products because the files would be so big that an old dial up connection would not have been able to make the delivery.

Now with the advances in broadband speeds it would be possible to convert the files to a digital format and deliver them online with very little problem at all.  Imagine how much easier it is to upload a file to your webhost and then just send a customer a download link when they make a purchase, and this entire process can be automated.  After a customer pays for your product they can be redirected straight to the download page to access their new product.

Compare this to fulfilling an order for a physical product.  You have to burn the disc, print the artwork, package it all up then take it to the post office.  If it’s a big product consisting of say a 12 disc set then it does become quite a task and because most people are lazy this puts them off.  Add to this, in addition to the time involved, there is a financial cost in fulfilling the order as opposed to the digital method.

The upshot of all this is that the ease and zero cost to produce and deliver digital products means that they can very quickly spread through the internet and the vast majority people selling the digital products try to compete solely on price causing the price to plummet.

As such the creators of the high-end products are very precious about them and will perhaps make restrictions on the license that they must remain as real physical products.

Another restriction is that products cannot be sold on auction sites such as eBay.  Auction sites are very popular and it is very easy for the average man to put up a listing to reach a huge audience.  It’s certainly much easier than learning how to put together a professional looking web site and payment processing and trying to drive traffic to it.

Ebay is the easy option so before long competition increases on the auction site and there are plenty of people once again willing to compete solely on price.

These restrictions are designed to turn off the amateur marketer.  It helps to preserve the real value and the perceived value of the product.

How To Use Digital Products On Your Front End To Promote Your High Value Back End Product.

I have a lot of email enquiries asking me, Anthony what’s the easiest way to get traffic to my sales page or how do I promote a front end/back end product combination?

What I do is offer a high value but low cost front end product with master resell rights, typically this is a digital product.  Then I use this to send traffic to my closely related back end product.

As a real example my back end is The Instant Web Profits System.  This is a package created by Dan Lok who is known in the industry as the website conversion expert.

Dan is a very successful copywriter and has presented seminars around the world showing people how to improve the copy and presentation of their websites to increase conversions, make more sales and make more money.

The Instant Web Profits System is a collection of Dan’s best seminar recordings and video lessons which represent the accumulation of 25 years of knowledge and experience.

This is a physical product on 12 discs which I recommend at a minimum retail value of £97.00.  To make a good job of the production and packaging of the set costs around £9 so there is a very good profit to be made on each sale…almost 1,000%

However it would be very naive to think that people are just going to stumble across your site and make a purchase from you if they have never dealt with you or even heard of you ever before.

Instead, rather than trying to sell them straight away on the high value product offer a related product which is of high value but low cost, this is the front end product.

For the front end in this example I have a product called “Copywriting Secrets from the Master” which again is by Dan Lok on the same subject of copy and conversion but this is a low cost digital product.

In this, Dan is being interviewed by a fellow marketer and he reveals some valuable copywriting tricks and strategies and he really comes across as the expert that he is.

This front end product I sell on eBay and also on Tradebit, which since eBay banned digital downloads has taken over in making it really easy to supply digital products and is the go to place for low-cost digital downloads.  It’s also available at my ResellRightsVideoVault website where I put up digital items.

When you sell a product on eBay it is hopefully obvious that at the very least you can put in a covering letter thanking the buyer for their custom and remind them of your website address where they can get more great products; that is your back end items.

If you send the front end item digitally then you do of course have your customers email address so you can use that to keep him informed of the back end products.

In this example I have been able to use a very powerful “viral marketing” strategy.  Because the front end product “Copywriting Secrets From The Master” has PLR rights, which means I can edit it however I wish and also pass on the PLR rights this is what I did…it was in fact only the download page I changed.

When someone bought the front end product I sent them to a download page where they could download the product.  Here is a copy of that page:-

Beneath the download links you can see a resource box and I have provided links to the back end products, The Instant Web Profits System & The Fusion Copy Formula.  So when those links are clicked the user is forwarded to the sales pages for my back end products.

As the front end and back end products are so closely related I can be extremely confident the visitor is going to be interested and has a better than average chance of buying.

The real beauty however is that the customer who bought the front end product also has the master resell rights to the front end product, along with the download page which accompanied it.

Remember that this is the very same download page which contains links to my back end product.  As a consequence the product and download page are spread “virally” through the internet and an ever increasing number of buyers are getting exposure to the back end product.

How easy do you think it would be to copy this method?

Let’s break it down step by step.

1. Set up a website for your back end product.
2. Select a high value, low cost front end product which you are allowed to edit and sell with master resell rights.
3. Start selling your front end product on eBay, Tradebit, your own website or your blog WITH master resell rights.
4. Fulfil orders as you receive them.

Rinse and Repeat.:  Use your imagination and find other product combinations you could do this with.  How many income streams like this do you think you could create?

I have a lot of experience in creating pages like these but when I stopped for a moment to consider what is actually invloved in putting a page like this together and uploading it to the internet – there’s a lot to it.

You need to know:

1. How to create a webpage.
2. How to create the graphics.
3. How to insert the opt-in form.
4. How to upload it to your webhost.

Four simple steps if you know what you are doing but what if you’re a “Newbie”?  These are big hurdles to get over.

Then there’s what goes on beyond that squeeze page.  If you are ultimatley selling a product then you need to be able to insert payment buttons and then be able to automate the delivery process of the product (if it’s adigital item).

Then there’s traffic – again another MASSIVE topic.

Google Adwords

The method I chose was Number 3. I have been working on the other methods, with “working” being the operative word. It takes time and experience to develop traffic streams with free methods so while all of that is work in progress the best way to drive quick, targeted traffic to your website is with paid advertising such as Google Adwords.

If you are unfamiliar with Google Adwords then these are the ads you see on the right hand side of the page when you use the Google search engine.

My Adwords Campaign:

This is for the period 20 May 08 to 25 Jan 09 as you can see the graph is quite erratic due to the fact I kept changing things so often and I didn’t really know what I was doing!

You can see however, that during this time 1,781 people clicked my ad, which took them to my website, which during this time was just a simple “squeeze page” where in exchange for their email address they could download a report.

Not everybody did. From the 1,781 visitors, 369 decided to opt-in to receive the free report which is a conversion rate of 20.7% which I think is good all things considered.

These 1,781 clicks cost me £206.15 (approx. 12p per click) in advertising. From this I gained a list of 369 people who showed an interest in my products. In financial terms each subscriber cost me 56p.

74 of those subscribers actually went on to make a purchase from my website (that’s 20%) and the total revenue from those sales was £9395.10 (see PayPal screenshots).

If I may confide in you, I still have a lot to learn about adwords, so I never used any secret “Ninja” tactics here and a £206.15 spend in an 8 month period is tiny, many marketers would spend this in a month, or maybe even a week.

I would advise caution though if you are just starting with adwords: In this real example you can see I got a great Return on Investment without getting carried away with the advertising costs. There are many variables involved here and there are no guarantees.

You are however in control of your adword costs at all time and it really is a great way to get instant traffic to your web page.

It’s all about using the INTERNET and all of its technologies to MARKET your products or services.  Many people starting out focus on learning how to create websites, blogs and You Tube videos which is fine, but then they spend little effort in learning marketing.

This approach is backwards.  The only way to make money is by selling stuff and to do this you need to understand marketing.  Once you have learnt marketing then learn how to use the internet as your marketing medium.

Marketing is easy and you could learn all about it within a day (though it could take quite a while to master).

Marketing 101:  It’s All About DESIRE

1. Find a target audience, a large group of people with a burning DESIRE.
2. Find a solution to fulfil their DESIRE.
3. Reach out to those people and show them you have the solution.
4. If their DESIRE is great enough and you have persuaded them that you have the solution then they will be willing to pay for it.

So to become an expert marketer you need to identify a “hungry crowd” with a burning desire.  Then empathise with the crowd that you understand how they feel because you were once like them until you found this solution.

On the internet you would rely on your sales letter to make that connection with your audience.  This is what makes the sales letter the most important part of the marketing system and is why the best sales letter writers (direct response copywriters) can charge £5,000+ to write a sales letter for a client.

Build Your List

This is the number one rule in marketing.  Someone seeing your sales page is unlikely to buy right there and then so if you can capture their contact details you have an opportunity to keep in touch with them.

You can then send messages to reinforce the benefits of your product and therefore make a sale, or keep them advised of further related products in the future.  Be considerate of  how you treat your list of subscribers.  If all you are going to do is send them sales messages then it is very easy for them to hit the unsubscribe link.

Instead put some time and energy into providing your subscribers with lots of free and valuable content and they will stay subscribed and will take more of an interest when you do make an offer.

What Is The Funnel System?

People are naturally cautious when it comes to putting their faith into strangers.  For example would you trust any old builder to come around and make modifications to your house or would you prefer someone who was recommended to you or ideally someone you had used before?

If you are asking someone to send you money online for a product they aren’t too sure of then you are expecting a “leap of faith” from them and it becomes increasingly difficult as the product price increases.

For this reason when dealing with a new prospect your first offer shouldn’t be expensive but it should be worth much more than you are charging for it.  This way the low price makes it more likely a new prospect will consider your offer and the quality of your product will make for a very happy customer.

A happy customer is more likely to purchase from you again and much more likely to purchase a higher value product.

So like a funnel, lots of people are going in at the top (front-end) and making a low value purchase and through your marketing process some people are taking you up on the higher value products (back-end) as they progress through your sales funnel.

Here Is The BIGGEST Secret.

===> Some customers are worth a great deal of money to you if they purchase your higher value offers.  For instance they start off with the low cost purchase of let’s say £27, then another purchase at £97 then another purchase of your best product at £397.  The total value of that customer is £27+£97+£397=£521.  So that’s nearly TWENTY TIMES MORE than the original £27 sale. <===

This being the case, it’s okay to only make a very small profit (or a small loss), on the front end offer because the real value is in the back-end.

“This is why so many Internet Marketing beginners fail”.  It’s because they don’t understand marketing and don’t have a funnel system in place.  Therefore when they don’t make any money (or very little money) they give up before they have even really got started.

So if you want to succeed online, first make sure you understand marketing, then learn how to use the internet to apply the marketing.

Aside #1.  You do not have to offer increasingly expensive items to your customers.  A steady offering of low to mid-priced items is just as good, such as a continuity program.  E.g. a monthly membership site.

Aside #2.  As a customer progresses through your funnel don’t expect that they will buy every item.  Some people may not be interested in the opening offer but may be at a point where they want to go straight for your high-ticket item.

In Part I, I wrote about marketing, the funnel system and what I consider the biggest secret to Internet Marketing success. In this part I will show you how to apply the marketing system to the internet.

First YOU NEED PRODUCTS to form your funnel.  You can only make money by selling products or services!  To Maximise your income, your products should consist of:

1. A low priced high value product.
2. A mid priced product.
3. A highest value product.

The low priced product could be an e-book of 50-100 pages, the mid priced product perhaps an audio series and the high priced product a complete course.

Firstly take the sales page of the e-book, add your own paypal button and upload it to your web space. Then you need to drive traffic to your web page. There are many ways to drive traffic which are beyond the scope of this article but check the FREE DOWNLOADS PAGE for some inspiration.

Once you make a sale then you have your buyers email address so you can offer the mid-priced product and later the high-priced product.

Even with the best sales letter only a small 1-3% are likely to make a purchase. What you need is a method to collect your visitors name and email address in exchange for a free-report. If your traffic is well targeted then you could get up to 25% of your website visitors signing up.

How successful you become depends on many factors, most notably:

1. Your choice of products
2. How much targeted traffic you generate
3. The effectiveness of your sales pages
4. The relationship you build with your list
5. And of course TAKING ACTION.

How To Take Action Now!
